Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Other Big November Dates

26 On SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY, be on your best behavior. The marketing associated with this day has the potential to bring a lot of new customers in the door, especially if you’re in a downtown area or community mall. Be ready to showcase or offer samples of your best products or services. And give thought to a way of incentivizing your new customers to return. Being a local business is your biggest advantage over the national chains.

20 On GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS DAY, think of a number and promote yourself. Are you closing in on your 10,000th customer? Your 5,000th wedding ring sold? 1,000th locket engraving of “You. Me. Forever”? Run some numbers, select a pending milestone and then let the local paper in on the countdown with news of how you plan to celebrate.

24 On THANKSGIVING, celebrate your staff, your vendors, your customers. And to double down on the spirit of gratitude, send a goodie bag to your 50 best customers.

28 It’s CYBER MONDAY. Boost sales (and info gathering) by teasing a special coupon that will only be available via your newsletter.

Time for More “Me Time”? Time to Call Wilkerson

Rick White, owner of White’s & Co. Jewelry in Rogers, Ark., knew it was time to retire. Since the age of 18, jewelry had been his life. Now it was time to get that “me time” every retailer dreams about. So, he chose Wilkerson to manage his going-out-of-business sale. White says he’d done plenty of sales on his own, but this was different. “Wilkerson has been a very, very good experience. I’ve had the best salespeople in the history of jewelry,” he says. “I recommend Wilkerson because they are really the icon of the jewelry business and going-out-of-business sales. They’ve been doing it for decades. I just think they’re the best.”
