Pinky Rings Witness A Glowing Revival

Day 1: Las Vegas Trends

Pinky rings have had a rich if not infamous history. They’ve been worn by everyone from royalty to mobsters, as well as by Victorian men and women who used them to signal that they didn’t wish to get married. In European upper-crust society, they began to signify power, wealth, honor or position. Dandies wore them in Edwardian times, and they were well-loved in the U.S. by men and women during the Jazz Age, when self-expression was all the rage. From mid-20th century in the U.S., pinky rings have been associated with the music business, from the Rat Pack to rappers. But they were most renowned in the U.S. for their association with real-life gangsters and those portrayed in film and on TV: the Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas, Casino, Donnie Brasco and the hit HBO series “The Sopranos.” Perhaps the fact that they stood for honor, loyalty and being part of a clan gave them their place in the Cosa Nostra. But over the years the bad reputation wore off, and a variety of styles turned up on the red carpet, launching one of the major trends for 2023. For women, they signify self-expression, empowerment and individualism in a variety of styles.
